At PAPDA, we take pride in standing at the forefront, supporting communities in moments of hardship. Preparedness and timely action are the pillars of our response strategy. When the floods severely impacted multiple woredas across the Shebele zone for which Kelafo Woreda is one of them. These areas faced significant displacement and casualties following heavy rains that led to overflowing riverbanks and flash floods from the Somali region and the Bale Mountains of the Oromia region. Specifically, 7,459 households were displaced, and 17,902 households were flood-affected, of which in Kelafo 2,685HHs or 17,452 Individuals are flood affected. PAPDA promptly secured an emergency response project through IOM to assist the flood-affected communities.

A dedicated mission team, led by the project focal person, was dispatched from PAPDA’s head office to provide much-needed relief to the impacted communities in the Somali Regional State. The project focuses on distributing Emergency Shelter (ES) kits and Multipurpose Cash Transfers (MPCT) to 1,000 vulnerable internally displaced households (IDP HHs), with a total budget of 24603395 ETB.

Despite challenging weather conditions and persistent flooding during the distribution, the team, in close coordination with the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and IOM, successfully completed the operation, ensuring smooth and effective delivery of aid. PAPDA remains committed to being a reliable partner to communities in their most critical moments.
